History of My Racing Career
Photo by Jayden Buckley, April 29, 2018
Matt Urban helped other race car drivers for several years,
before getting into the 4 cylinder division in 2013, Racing the #48 Bee at Slinger Super Speedway.
Matt had moved to Oklahoma for a short time. Upon returning to Wisconsin,
he took a year off of racing in 2015, helping Jayden Buckley on her #31 Slinger Bee.
In 2016, Matt drove a Grand National Dirt car, provided by Dave & Sherry Thomas.
He raced the Dirt Car mostly at Plymouth, with 4 races planned in Manitowoc and one in Oshkosh.
Matt also raced a 4 cylinder in the bee division at Slinger Super Speedway.
2017 Matt captured the Slinger Bee Championship at Slinger Super Speedway!
2018 We will be racing in the 4 cylinder Slinger Bee Division again this year. Our season ended after the Sept. 2, 2018 race.
2019 We raced at Slinger and Jefferson. Had some bad luck this year and my season ended early.
2020 I plan to race full time at Slinger Super Speedway this year, and travel for racing as much as possible.

Started out by getting to track little late after very long weekend of late model racing. Wausau Friday, then Dells Raceway Park Saturday helping out a great friend. Got to Slinger in time for the last practice. The car was decent, but we made a few changes for qualifying. Ended up qualifying 5th out of a field of 20 cars. They didn’t have any heat races this week due to the large amount of classes racing. Started 7th in the Feature and made a good hard charge to 2nd which is where I finished. Another good solid night!
We'll go through the car this week and get it ready for Saturday. Making my first ever start at Dells Raceway Park, then back to Slinger on Sunday, so have a double header coming up this weekend !

Finally was able to put together a solid fun night. Qualified 4th out of 23. Started 2nd in the fast dash and won it. Started the Feature in 7th place, had a good fun solid battle with the 51 car, racing through the field of cars, where I ended up in 3rd place.

Well after last weeks wreck a few sponsors and friends helped me get the car back together! Luckily I have the best team in the world! Rick and Todd had the parts needed In stock and we got it all back together in time to race. Went out for practice and the car didn’t miss a beat! We were 3rd fastest out of 21 cars. Ended up 9th out of a field of 22 cars. In the Heat race I started 5th and made my way up to 2nd. In the Feature I started 9th and made my way up to 4th before something let go on the car. Kept going until caution came out, went into the pits and found out a gas tank strap broke, Then I had yet another DNF. We will get back at it get it fixed up for next week at Slinger and hopefully have a solid night at Slinger, because the following 2 weeks we hope to be running at Jefferson and then making my first ever trip to Dells Raceway Park the following week.

Today started out rough. Still having problems with the car! Thought we had it figured out, but we had things to work on for the second practice. Qualified 3rd out of 24 cars and made it into the Fast Heat where I started 5th and made my way up to 3rd. In the Feature I started 5th and made my way up to 2nd pretty quick.
On lap 7 I ended up getting caught up in an accident, wrecking everything in the left rear of the car.
Can’t thank my sponsors, friends and team enough for helping me out!
We’ll go through the car again and be back out next week!

Today was a decent day, but didn’t get to practice because of rain and having to make adjustments to the car.
We went out for qualifying and ended up 4th out of 16 and made the fast dash.
For the fast dash I started outside front row and had a good battle for the lead, then on lap 4 of 8, while leading, the distributor broke. We couldn’t get it fixed in time for the feature. Disappointing end to the night, but we’ll get it fixed and be back stronger and better next week!

Father's Day Race at Slinger Super Speedway
Made it for one practice. Car was wicked fast...turned fasted lap I have ever had in this car!
In qualifying I messed up pretty bad and ended up qualifying 12th out of 18 cars.
In the heat race I started 4th, took the lead by turn 2, checked out and ended up breaking out with only 2 laps to go, with good friends on outside of me.
Started 12th in the Feature and put on a hell of a show running way up on the high side, 3 wide most of the night. About half way through the race there was a crash off of turn 4, where a teammate, Brady, lost a right front tire and hit the wall pretty hard off of turn 4. I got caught up in a wreck with Marty and another car hit me. It was a Red Flag Caution, so I got out and checked the car over, it wasn’t as bad as I thought at all, so I got back in the car and restarted in 8th. Once we lined back up I was on mission and ended up finishing 2nd!

Practice was decent, but tried some new things and when I went to pull out of pits for 2nd practice, ended up having an electrical fire got that put out in time to not wreck anything big. Fixed everything then went out for qualifying ended up qualifying 10th out of 15 cars.
In the heat race I started 4th drove up to 2nd, almost passing for the lead, when another driver was all over the place and ended up taking us both to rear. I made it passed him finally and finished 6th.
In the feature I started 12th and picked off some cars, had solid finish of 7th in a caution free race. Definitely could have used one or two cautions, plus the track just didn’t have any grip for me or the other cars during our feature! But we will be back next week do it all again!
See my photo & video page for the Feature video.

First Race at Jefferson Speedway, Bandit Division
Decided to travel and run in the Bandit division at Jefferson Speedway. Was fun traveling! Had a good time and kept the car in one piece. Was the fastest in Practice.
Also ran with the Internationals. Always wanted to drive the Big Track...was a blast!
Qualified 1st out of 15 cars. In my Heat race I started 5th and ended 2nd. Going clockwise was a wild and different feeling!
In the Bandit Feature, I started 11th and ended 2nd. Got a little light damage.

My 2nd race at Jefferson Speedway
16th race this season, having run 14 races at Slinger
Didn't think I'd be racing anymore this season, but I had an opportunity to run my buddy CJ's car at Jefferson this weekend.
This helped us get his car dialed in and faster for him.
Practice helped me get use to the track, since I've only turned a few laps there earlier this season. Got more and more comfortable, each time I went out, and we were throwing big changes at the car in between. The car got faster and faster.
Qualified 10th out of a field of 16 cars. Took 3rd in the Heat Race.
Started in 4th for the Feature. Was involved in a wreck on the first lap and was sent to the rear of the pack. After the restart, I was making my way back up through the pack. Started to go around a guy who was going for first, when he slammed me into the grass, spun around and ended up hitting him in the left rear, causing a caution. Drove up by the fence, to have the crew look to see if we could continue to race. Restarted 16th. Working my way up through the pack again, I made it to 11th place when the drivers side axle snapped, coming out of the corner. That forced us to retire for the night.
The good news is, we will get it fixed and plan to be back at Jefferson in 2 weeks, on Saturday, September 8th.
There is a "Live with Spike" video, of him interviewing me after the Jefferson race, on my facebook page!
Slinger's 16th race of the season (Sun, Aug. 26th) was rained out. But since my car is totaled, I couldn't have raced anyway.

14th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
This week was pretty bad, to say the least. Started out with qualifying 3rd out of 19 cars.
In the heat race I started 6th, making my way up to 4th, where I finished.
Then came the Feature. I started in 4th and early in race had a 3 wide battle for the lead, which lasted for a good 2-3 laps. I was able to take the lead but once I got to the bottom, my car handled really bad, It was so tight.
We had a caution, where I ended up restarting on the outside and messed up at the start, so I got shuffled back a few spots, was running 4th-5th. On lap 20, coming out of turn 4, with 5 laps to go, I was side by side with a really good friend, Brandon Berens, in the #22 car. He got turned sideways by the car behind us and his car snapped and came right up the track, which hit me in the Left Front. The front end of my car came off the ground and I went head on into the wall and took the hardest hit I’ve ever taken in racing!. Sadly the car is totaled!
Hope to be back this week in a friend car, but for rest of the season not really sure what’s going to happen.
Have to see what strings I can pull. If we an get a new chassis together, we may be able to race for the rest of the season, if not, we’ll regroup this winter and decide what I'd really like to do. Possibly move up a division, or maybe take some time off. We’ll see what everyone wants to do and find out what the sponsors are thinking as well.

13th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
Not much to say, got wrecked on lap 3 of the Feature, by #24 Marty Tackes.
Had to go to the pits, changed a tire, came back out in 17th place.
Finished the race in 8th place.
Best part was getting to drive around Tackes, where of course he tried to wreck me again, but failed.
Fell to 3rd in points. 76 points to make up. Need things to turn around, or there won't be a season championship this year.

12 Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
Tried something new this week during Qualifying. It definitely didn't work! Qualified 10th.
During the Heat Race, I started in 4th, was running side by side for the lead almost the entire race. On last lap, while going into the 3-4 turn, I got blasted by Dorzok. Took me out, spun me big time, did a full 360.
Had to make some repairs before the feature race. Ran the outside for most of the Feature, but got boxed in and couldn't break free to gain ground. The field was too tight. Finished the Feature in 7th place.
We need a win next week, to regain the points lead. We are 44 points behind right now.

11th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
Pretty disappointing night. Decided to race, even though I was sick.
Broke out in the Heat race then again in the Feature race.
Started the Feature in 9th. Made my way up to the front of the pack and was battling for the lead, with 4 laps left, and I broke out on high side with a 15.199.
The only highlight of the night was that I qualified 2nd, missing fast time by just little bit.
The car was handful to drive and overheated pretty bad, so we have work to do. We will get back to drawing board and get the car back to normal this week. My team and I will get after it and be back next week to continue to chase this championship!
I’m only 36 points out of the lead, so there still a good chance at this!

10th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
This Sunday was definitely a roller coaster night! During practice, the car was about the fastest it's ever been, and I wasn't even driving it all out.
Started in 6th during the Heat Race. Made my way up on the high side, to battle for the lead. Was passing for the lead, with 3 to 4 laps to go, when the leader washed up and blasted me in the left fender, luckily I didn't spin out, saved it and went on for two more laps, then had to leave the track due to problems suffered when I took the hit. The car wasn't handling right and I wanted to go over it before the Feature.
Started 7th in the Feature. Made my way up to 2nd by lap 5. There was also a Caution on lap five. On the restart, I took the outside and was able to take the lead, Car # 6 and I were battling for the lead for awhile, then #22 moved up and I was battling with him to keep my lead. On lap 17, the #33 car overtook 2nd place to battle with me and on lap 18 he hit me from behind coming into turn 4, but I regained control. He got next to me on the high side, fighting to take the lead. He dropped down to the inside and on lap 20 and on lap 21 he drove up into me hard, doored me, blew his right front tire taking me into the wall, coming out of turn 4. After we broke free, i regained control, but had fallen back to 4th place. Drove that car the hardest I could on the outside, but ended up coming home 3rd in the Feature. Missed getting 2nd by less than half a car length.
See my photo & video page for Dan Margetta's video of the Feature.

9th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
Last night was a up and down day that’s for sure. We found stuff wrong with the motor that wouldn’t be able to fix till during the week so I only qualified and ran the feature. I ended up qualifying 7th out of 17 cars. Skipped heat race because I didnt wanna put laps on hurt motor if didn’t need to then feature came I stared outside row 2 while I was in line I was thinking all I want is to finish the race and not hurt the motor. So soon as green flag dropped I just set paced and rode was able to make few moves early and got under Brandon tackes outta turn 2 on lap 4 and we ran the next 18-20 laps side by side was really intense fun race! He would gain a bit id gain a bit went back and forth the whole race then tords the end I was able to slowly start making a gab and went on to win my 3rd feature win of the season!!! I can’t wait to see how the rest of this year goes. Tear into motor and fix the problems this week and hopefully be back next week right where we left off!

6th Race Of The Season At Slinger Speedway
FATHER'S DAY FEATURE WIN FOR MY DAD!
Well this recap is not just the day recap! Started out Saturday morning finding things wrong with the car.
Thought there was no way we would be lucky enough to get it together and be able to race Sunday.
I went to the shop Sunday morning, to what I thought was to get the parts and stuff that I needed to take in.
When I walked in, Rick Schaefer, (the BEST Crew Chief guy could ask for) was there. He tells me to start the car. So, I started it... and it ran great!
Rick busted his ass all morning without telling me! He was out there for 3 hours getting it ready to go for me.
I can’t thank you enough Rick! If it wasn't for You and Todd, I wouldn’t be anywhere near what I am today as a driver, or have such an amazing running car.
Tonight started out as sad day for me, because as most of you know, my Dad passed away before I got into racing. It’s always been a dream to win on Father’s Day for him!
Well today I did! Almost won fast dash, ending up 2nd. But I got it done in the Feature! Started outside front row, took the lead right away and lead all 25 Laps. Burned it down for you Dad!
Never thought I would ever get emotional, or choked up, or even cry, after winning a race... because it’s never happened in any of my other wins. But as I parked in victory lane and started taking my stuff off, I started to tear up. It was so amazing winning this particular feature.
This night by far is my best racing career memory! It beats my first ever win, my first feature win, hell, It even beats my championship last year. I love you so much Dad and this was all for you! I’m glad I could get it done!!!
Want to see how happy I was...Click here to see Ashley Pawlak's video!

My First Ever Race at Jefferson Speedway!
Was excited to finally run at Jefferson! Got in one Practice run.
Qualified 6th out of 10 cars. At the Jefferson sandbox, you need some seat time, can't just go in there and be good!
In the Heat Race, I started on the Pole and lead 7 1/2 laps out of 8! Got ran into a bit, which pushed me up...was a good, hard, door banging battle for the finish. Ended up finishing 2nd. Not bad for my first race at a new track.
Started 4th row inside for the Feature. Rolling around the track before we went Green and my car died, wouldn't restart. Think the Distributor is bad, will have to dig into it to find out.
Overall I was happy, especially since I was running my Slinger track set-up. Definitely want to go back! Change my set-up a little bit for next time.
I had Fun!

5th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
Was another disappointing race. We changed a lot during week and it helped the problems we were having, which is good, so practice went well.
I Broke Out during Qualifying again, so I had to start dead last in the Heat Race and in the Feature.
In the Heat race I made my way from 7th to 2nd, running high side.
The Feature started out with a huge wreck right after the green flag dropped, didn't even get one lap in. Luckily I missed the wreck. When the race was restarted, I was in 8th and made my way up to 5th. Then I Broke out again on lap 5. We will take out losses and get even better next week!
Next Saturday, June 9th, I’ll be making my first ever appearance in a race at Jefferson speedway!
Then back to Slinger on Sunday, June 10th.

4th Race of the Season at Slinger Speedway
It was definitely a up and down day, that’s for sure. It started out with me qualifying 2nd out of 16 cars.
I started 4rd row inside in the Heat Race, a few laps into the race I lost power coming out of turn 2. Got a DNF, (Did not finish, no points). Got the car fixed ready for Feature, where I started 5th row inside. I made my way to finish 4th, after having a bad start where the inside row got shuffled back pretty bad, video below.
When I pulled off the track after the Feature, the temp gauge was pegged so I will have to go through the car this week and make sure everything is ok. Hope to be back ready to go for next week!

3rd Race of the Season at Slinger Super Speedway
Slinger Speedway was closed last Sunday, May 13th, so the Driver's could spend Mother's Day with their families.
Tonight was an okay night. I completely messed up during qualifying and ended up 11th out of 26.
In my Heat race, I started 3rd row inside and was able make my way to front, winning the heat!
In the feature, I started 5th row outside, made my way through the field pretty quick. Was passing for the lead
on high side, around Marty Tackes, and I ended up breaking out on lap 17 of the 25 lap feature.
We are currently in 3rd place in the Bee division, 70 points behind Marty Tackes and 15 points behind Ricky Gebherd, who is currently in 2nd place.
For those that don't know, "Breaking Out, or the term "He Broke Out" means a driver went to fast on his last lap!
The consequences for a lap faster than 15.200, in the Bee division, is getting black flagged... no points, no payout.
Since my car this year is so fast, I'm thinking about taking it to Jefferson one of these Saturdays!

2nd race of the season at Slinger Super Speedway
We found some stuff wrong with the car during the week, after the first race. Got it fixed, came out this week in practice and the car was a rocket! Came in, found little problem with it, got that fixed and went out for Qualifying. Ended up breaking out, so had to start dead last in fast dash and dead last in Feature.
Picked up the Fast Dash win, second week in a row!
Then rolled out for Feature, and though I had a lot of work to do, starting so far back in the pack, I went on mission and made high side work! Worked my way up to front and had a awesome side by side battle for quite awhile with Marty Tackes. Was able to make my way by and went on to Win the Feature!
It was dream day, being able to pick up both wins from dead last. This car is getting better and better every week, can’t wait to make it out to few new tracks mid season and see how our luck is there.
Can’t thank my sponsors enough! Special thanks to my crew, my team and especially my fiancée Jayden for all support!

Points Race for the Season Championship
As of the July 9th race, I am 44 points out of first place. Feels good to be in 2nd, with a chance at the Championship!
Hope things go well as we forge ahead this season! Update: Due to the winner of the July 9th Race being illegal, I won the race and got the Feature win points.
As of July 16th, I am the points leader in the Slinger Bees division! Feels good to be up by 7 points!
As the weeks have passed, I've gained more points toward the 2017 Championship.
Winning the August 13th Feature, put me up 117 points!
August 27, 2017, Last week was a tough week, had handling problems. This week, after some adjustments, I did better.
Only ahead by 69 points, in the bid to win the Season Championship. The next two weeks are critical.
September 3, 2017. Currently 58 points ahead. Next week the Champions will be decided. Hoping to have a good week and win my first Championship!
WE DID IT! I WON MY FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP! It was close, but we won by 36 points. Thanks to my Pit Crew, couldn't have done it without you!

18th and Final Race of the 2017 Season
Sunday, September 10, 2017
Well the 2017 racing season has come to an end at Slinger Speedway.
I was able to capture my very first championship, in my first season ever racing full time. It still doesn't seem real! Especially when you read your facebook status and people say good job champ! It's crazy to believe that a dream I've had since I was a little kid came true, so quick into my racing Career, at such a famous track. Non of this would never have come close to being possible, if it wasn't for such amazing sponsors!
Special thanks to Rick Schaefer and Todd Buckley for all the help this season.
I'd also like to thank all my sponsors Al Strobel III, Stacy Melnick-Coe, Steve Zoromski, Todd Smith, Vicky Waskiewicz, Jerry Mueller, Turk Letizia, and Bobby Gutknecht. I can't thank those people enough. Such an amazing team!
...and the support and my loving Girl Friend Jayden Buckley, Thank You for being my biggest supporter and at my side through everything.
Good season for team Integra!

Qualified 4th. Started 4th in the Heat race, stuff started getting dicey so I backed out of it. Ended up finishing 6th. Started 4th in Feature, ran 2nd for a little while, fell back a few spots, was a real hard fought tough battle with Tommie, ended up finishing 3rd.
16th Race of the Season...Recap by Matt
August 27, 2017
Threw in new parts and rim on RR this week. Got to track and had to go threw tech so I missed first practice. Ran second practice and had fastest lap in practice which I was surprised with how bad the car was last week, but it was pretty dam good all night long. Qualifying I ended up 3rd in heat race (I started 4th finished 3rd).
Then in the Feature, I started 4th and had a crazy battle with a few guys. It was a fun feature. I fell back a few and gained a few laps, finishing 4th.
Only 2 weeks to go, can't wait to see how it pans out.
Can't thank Rick and Todd enough for help getting new parts and getting them in for tonight! See my "Photo and Video" page for the video of me fighting for position, the last few laps.

Started out good. Set fast time in qualifying. Then in heat race I started 5th and finished 6th because there was allot banging going on so I backed off and ran heat race as another practice session. Then in feature I started 7th and made my way into 2nd and finished 2nd on leader bumper but I filed a protest because his car was illegal for rim offset and I ended up getting feature win points.
8th Race of the Season...Race Recap by Matt
Sunday, July 2, 2017
Was an OK night this week. Qualified 4th out of 19 cars, our biggest car count of the season! I started 5th in the Heat Race, there was a new guy racing from the Dells in front of me. Had to force the issue coming out of turn 2, I got him, then fell back to last, but drove my way back up to 5th. In the Feature, I started 3rd row, outside, but my car was horrible, it was so tight, I fell back pretty far in the beginning of the race. About half way thru the race, the car got a little better, still tight, but I drove up to 6th place.
Got it back to the shop and working on getting it ready for next week!
Hopefully July 9th will be better...can't wait to get out there Sunday!

What a night at track. Qualified 4th started 3rd in heat race worked my way into 2nd came across the line on leader bumper then in feature also started 3rd and my way it wild top 6 or so cars nose tail for long time the high line would start to go then fall back and inside line would go then. Fall back it was like mini Daytona lol finally cleared and got into 2nd with 6 laps to go and was about 7-9 car lengthens back and I set sail and chased down Tommie Elsinger when White flag came out gave bumper few times lol but that's short track fun racing ended up 2nd at the line. Can't wait to get back next week car keeps getting better and better every week!

4th Race of the Season...Race Recap by Matt
Sunday, June 4, 2017
Such a disappointment night at track. I know allot of people say don't be down on your self so hard. But I'm really competitive and it sucks allot when have a bad night at track. It's part of the game though I can't complain at all how my year has started it's been by far best of my Career. Tonight started out with qualifying 2nd just missing it by .010 of second to teammate Paul Reagles. Then in heat started last row inside and on lap two cord broke on RF and tire went flat pulled off right away. Then in feature started 4th and fell back to 8th car was really tight then on lap 16 Blew a RR coming outta two luckily kept it outta wall I pulled to infield and was able to watch one of best battles I've ever seen between my two great teammate Paul and Rick Schaefer going at it with rick getting Paul at the line by .015. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported local short track racing and great night. I'm gunna get it all fixed up and come back even strong next week.

Race recap: last night was by far the best race day of my career. Started out with qualifying 5th gotta really loose in 3-4 on last lap. Then heat race. Started last row inside which would put me 5th and waiting my time not forcing the issue and made some moves on the high side and picked up the heat win! Then feature comes started outside front row and battled for few laps with guy on inside and cleared him then started to check out had about strait away lead and got a lap car that was battling with me and took a bit to get around him which allowed 2nd to really close the gap luckily finally cleared the lap car and started to pull away a bit and picked up my first ever career feature win!!!!!! Which I still can't believe happened! I can't thank everyone enough who supports me and helps me out allot! My sponsors Stacy Melnick-Coe at COE Plumbing Al Strobel III at Strobels tree removal.
